O filme “Da 5 Bloods” foi considerado o melhor do ano para a organização de críticos norte-americana National Board of Review (NBR). O filme de Spike Lee saiu ainda vitorioso na categoria de melhor realização e melhor elenco, enquanto Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal) e Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Women) foram considerados, respetivamente, melhor ator e atriz.
“Sound of Metal” deu ainda o prémio de melhor ator secundário a Paul Raci, enquanto Youn Yuh-jung foi a melhor atriz secundária pela sua prestação em “Minari“. Este filme, que conta a história de uma família de imigrantes sul-coreanos que tentam construir uma vida no sul rural dos EUA, ganhou ainda o prémio de melhor argumento original, enquanto melhor argumento adaptado foi para “Notícias do Mundo“.
“Time” foi o melhor documentário; “Soul” o melhor filme de animação; e “La Llorona” o melhor filme internacional.
