Sem surpresas, “Nomadland” foi o grande vencedor dos Independent Spirit Awards, certame destinado a premiar o que melhor se faz no cinema independente norte-americano. Com 4 estatuetas, o filme de Chloé Zoe levou para casa o prémio de Melhor Longa-Metragem, Melhor Realizador, Melhor Montagem e Melhor Fotografia.
“Sound of Metal” também teve uma grande noite, vencendo as categorias de Melhor Filme em Estreia, Melhor Ator (Riz Ahmed) e Melhor Ator Secundário (Paul Raci). Carey Mulligan foi a Melhor Atriz por “Promising Young Woman” e Yuh-Jung Youn a Melhor Atriz Secundária por “Minari“.
“Never Rarely Sometimes Always”, sobre os obstáculos que uma adolescente encontra para fazer um aborto, era o filme mais nomeado aos Independent Spirit Awards, nas saiu do certame com zero premiações.
Um último destaque para os triunfos de “Quo vadis, Aida?” e “Crip Cramp“, respetivamente premiados como melhor filme internacional e melhor documentário.
De notar que qualquer filme nomeado a estes prémios não podia ter um orçamento superior a 22,5 milhões de dólares.
