O filme “The Power of The Dog” liderava os nomeados da 94ª edição dos Oscars, com 12 nomeações, mas “CODA” acabou por ser o grande vencedor da noite ao levar para casa a estatueta de melhor filme, melhor argumento adaptado (Siân Heder) e melhor ator secundário (Troy Kotsur).
Não foram, porém, os prémios a “CODA” ou o triunfo de Jane Campion na realização por “The Power of The Dog” o elemento mais marcante desta entrega dos prémios.
Will Smith foi eleito o melhor ator principal por “King Richard“, já depois de ter agredido o apresentador Chris Rock após uma piada deste sobre a sua esposa, Jada Pinkett Smith. Smith usou então o discurso de vitória para se desculpar da agressão.
De resto, Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) foi a melhor atriz, Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) a melhor atriz secundária, e “Belfast” ganhou o melhor argumento original. No filme internacional, ganhou “Drive my Car“.
Uma nota ainda para as várias conquistas de “Dune” nas categorias técnicas, onde se incluem vitórias na fotografia, som, montagem, efeitos visuais, cenografia e banda-sonora.
