Foram divulgados os nomeados aos Gotham Awards de 2020, selecionados por críticos de cinema, jornalistas, programadores de festivais e curadores de filmes. A edição 2020 dos prémios já fez História: todos os filmes nomeados na categoria de melhor filme são assinados por mulheres.
Assim, “The Assistant“, “First Cow“, “Never Rarely Sometimes Always”, “Nomadland” e “Relic” lutam na categoria de melhor filme. De destacar ainda a escolha de “Bacurau” como um dos concorrentes ao prémio de melhor filme internacional, e a nomeação de Chadwick Boseman a melhor ator.
