Foram divulgados os vencedores dos prémios anuais da Writers Guild of America (Guilda dos argumentistas norte-americanos) e se estavamos à espera que algum filme saísse reforçado ou mais favorito aos Oscars, tudo ficou mais confuso e imprevisível para o próximo dia 24 fevereiro.
Can You Ever Forgive Me?, escrito por Nicole Holofcener e Jeff Whitty, ganhou na categoria de melhor argumento adaptado, enquanto Eighth Grade, escrito por Bo Burnham, que não está sequer nomeado aos Oscars®, ganhou o prémio de melhor argumento original.
Na TV, The Handmaid’s Tale (vencedor do ano passado) perdeu na categoria de drama para The Americans, enquanto The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ganhou nas comédias. Uma nota ainda para o duplo triunfo de Barry, como melhor nova série e melhor episódio de comédia.
