O conto de vingança The Revenant – O Renascido é o filme mais nomeado à 88ª cerimónia de entrega dos Óscares. Com doze nomeações, o filme de Alejandro G. Iñárritu é seguido de perto por Mad Max: Estrada da Fúria, o qual conseguiu 10 indicações.
Oito filmes estão em competição ao Oscar de Melhor Filme. Para além dos dois já citados, estão também na lista A Queda de Wall Street, A Ponte dos Espiões, Brooklyn, Perdido em Marte, Quarto e O Caso Spotlight.
Nos atores, confirma-se a presença de Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant- O Renascido) e Eddie Redmayne (A Rapariga Dinamarquesa). As inclusões de Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs) e Matt Damon (Perdido em Marte) podem ser vistas como pequenas surpresas. Já no campo feminino, Cate Blanchett (Carol), Brie Larson (Quarto), Jennifer Lawrence (Joy), Charlotte Rampling (45 Years) e Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) eram previsíveis.
A cerimónia de entrega dos Óscares terá lugar dia 28 de fevereiro de 2016. O anfitrião será Chris Rock.
