O filme Ex Machina [ler crítica] foi o grande vencedor dos British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), os principais prémios do cinema independente no Reino Unido. Para além de conquistar o galardão de Melhor Filme, a fita viu ainda Alex Garland ser premiado pela realização e argumento, e Andrew Whitehurst ser distinguido pelos efeitos visuais.
Com este triunfo, o grande perdedor da noite foi The Lobster [ler crítica], do grego Yorgos Lanthimos. Nomeado para 7 prémios, o filme distópico apenas viu Olivia Colman ser considerada a Melhor Atriz Secundária. Curiosamente, o prémio de Melhor Ator Secundário coube a Brendan Gleeson, o qual participou no drama histórico Suffragette [ler crítica]. Nas categorias principais na interpretação, a vitória coube a Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) e Tom Hardy (Legend).
Destaque ainda para a cansagração de Dark Horse: The Incredible True Story of Dream Alliance, como o Melhor Documentário, Room, como o Melhor Filme Independente Estrangeiro, e de Edmond, como a Melhor Curta-Metragem.
