De acordo com o Hollywood Reporter, a Disney proibiu os meios de comunicação social que controla (como a estação ABC e os seus afiliados) de entrevistar ou falar com Johnny Depp sobre o filme «Rum Diary». Na base da questão está o facto de o filme poder – de certa maneira – fazer sombra à saga «Piratas das Caraíbas», que Depp protagoniza para os estúdios.
Esta decisão levou a que no Festival de Austin, no Texas, os jornalistas de diversas cadeias ligadas à Disney não pudessem recolher imagens ou sons do actor, que marcou presença no certame para promover o seu mais recente filme. «Viemos para falar com um dos maiores nomes de Hollywood, mas aparentemente a Disney não quer que a antestreia aqui no Cinema Paramount tenha mais exposição mediática que o novo «Piratas das Caraíbas», adiantou Shelton Green da Kvue News.
